What a water supply package covers

Mains extensions

New DICL, PVC-O and PE reticulation mains, tapping bands, tees and valves, tied into the existing network under authority supervision.

Service connections

Single and multi-lot water services, meter assemblies, boundary kits and manifolds for townhouse and unit developments.

Fire services

Hydrant and sprinkler feeds, booster connections and fire ring mains coordinated with your fire engineer and certifier.

Valves & backflow

Isolation, air and scour valves, plus backflow prevention points installed and positioned for testing access.

Pump sets & storage

Pressure and transfer pump installation, tank connections and pipework for sites where mains pressure falls short of demand.

Leak location & repair

Acoustic and pressure-based leak detection on private mains, followed by targeted excavation and repair of the failed section.

Material selection follows the authority's approved products list and the pressure class nominated in the hydraulic design. The summary below reflects what we install day to day.

Testing & commissioning

A main is not finished until it holds pressure

Every new main and service is proved before backfill closes it in. Test pressures, durations and disinfection requirements come from AS/NZS 3500.1 and the authority's specification for the asset class.

Visual check of bedding, thrust blocks and anchorage before charging the line.
Hydrostatic pressure test held for the specified period with gauge records kept.
Disinfection and flushing of potable mains, with sampling where the authority requires it.
Valve and hydrant operation checked, meter assembly fitted and witnessed.
As-constructed dimensions picked up, then trench backfilled and reinstated.

Common reasons a water job stalls

A connection application lodged after the trench is open, not before
Meter position conflicting with driveway or landscaping levels
Pressure and flow assumed rather than checked against the network
Fire service sizing revised after the trench alignment is set

Water supply questions we answer weekly

Who owns the water main and who owns the service?

The reticulation main and the meter belong to the water authority. Pipework downstream of the meter is the property owner's responsibility, which is where most private leak repairs and upgrades sit.

How deep does a water service need to be?

Minimum cover depends on the surface above the pipe, with deeper cover required under driveways and trafficked areas than under landscaped ground. The authority's standard drawing for the asset sets the figure we build to.

Can you connect a new main under a live road?

Yes, with an approved traffic management plan and the authority's permit. Road crossings are either open-cut and reinstated to council specification or bored, depending on pavement condition and the permit conditions.

My water pressure dropped suddenly. What do you check?

We isolate the property, read the meter for movement with all fixtures closed, then test private pipework section by section. Acoustic locating narrows the leak to a length of pipe before we excavate.

Do multi-unit developments need individual meters?

Most South East Queensland authorities require individual sub-metering for new multi-residential units, arranged in a bank or manifold with access for reading. The approved hydraulic plan confirms the arrangement for your site.

Will the water be shut off while you work?

Tie-ins need a planned shutdown, which we book with the authority and notify to affected properties in advance. Duration is nominated in the quote so occupants and site crews can plan around it.
